Big Canoe® Amenity Fees

The Big Canoe® Community sells no outside memberships. The only way to become a member is to become a property owner.

At Big Canoe®, if you don't use the amenities, you don't pay for them. You can either purchase a membership for one or several of the amenities or purchase a day pass.


Introduction
Membership in the amenities will be offered in five categories: Golf, Non-Golf Member Driving Range,Tennis, Pickleball, Fitness, Swim, and Fishing. You may join one, two, three, four, or all of the amenities.


Fee Schedule
Amenity fees, along with charges for additional services that you have used, will be billed to your POA account on a monthly basis with the exception of swim which will be billed annually. Once you join, your account will be charged the appropriate monthly or annual fees unless you "resign" from the amenity(s) you have joined. Joining an amenity creates a twelve-month obligation to pay the monthly fees and the membership cannot be canceled until after the first anniversary. As a special incentive, when you join golf, tennis and fitness all at one time you become a "Medallion Member" and receive a complimentary swim membership to both outdoor pools and a 10% discount off the total fees (fishing may also be included for the discount).

The Big Canoe POA recognizes a Family Membership as Member, spouse and dependent children 25 years of age or younger, who either reside with the member FULL-TIME and/or attend college on a FULL-TIME basis

REINSTATEMENT FEES
Reinstatement fees will be waived for property owners or lessees that have been out of the program for two or more years and are in good standing with the POA. If the property owner or lessee has been out of the Amenity less than two years, catch up dues shall be paid to become current or the property owner shall pay the reinstatement fee (whichever is less). Please review the Membership Provisions document for the reinstatement fee(s). Reinstatement fees may be paid by cash, check or one-time POA lot charge, and are not subject to sales tax.

In addition, members can participate in trips and vacations arranged for members, attend member-only dinners, events, and parties, play in inter-club matches and enjoy reciprocal play with other clubs.

Learning Golf Includes Range

  • Must sign up with Golf Pro
  • Single Memberships only
  • Advance tee times (14 days)
  • Tee Times 2:00 PM or later any day
  • Two Clinics IN-SEASON, minimum of Two Per Month @ $20.00 each
  • Members may upgrade to Full Golf at any time without penalty, with approval of Head Pro
  • Free round of golf on your birthday
  • Discounts on private and group lessions
  • 20% member discount of Golf Pro Shop soft goods
  • Complimentary Seim Membership to both outdoor pools

Non-Peak Golf (for Existing Members Only)

  • Advanced tee times (10 Days)
  • Free round of golf on the member's birthday (complimentary cart fees)
  • 20% Discount on Golf Pro Shop soft goods
  • Complimentary Swim Membership to both outdoor pools

Tennis Includes Pickleball

  • Use of indoor courts
  • Free Use of Pickleball Courts
  • Use of ball machine
  • Four (4) 1 Day free guest passes per year (guest pass tracked by tennis and are to be used for Non-Residents Only)
  • Direct Family (Parents, Children, includes Son-In-Law, Daughter-In-Law, Brothers, Sisters, Grandchildren) of the member may play for Property Owner Rate when accompanied by the Member
  • Use of demo rackets
  • 20% discount on clothing, shoes, socks, hats ,visors and Tennis bags in the Tennis Pro Shop (except stringing)
  • Tennis Members that hold a Fitness Membership receive a Complimentary Swim Membership to both outdoor pools

Pickleball

  • Four (4) free guest-passes (Guest Passes are to be used for Non-Residents Only)
  • Free use of demo paddles
  • Direct Family (Parents, Children, includes Son-In-Law, Daughter-In-Law, Brothers, Sisters, Grandchildren) of the member may play for Property Owner Rate when accompanied by the Member
  • 20% Member discount on clothing, shoes, socks, hats ,visors and Tennis bags in the Tennis Pro Shop

Wellness

  • Four (4), free one-day guest passes per year (guest pass tracked by wellness and are to be used for non-residents ONLY)
  • Complimentary equipment orientation
  • Use of racquetball and squash racquets rentals
  • Direct Family (Parents, Children, includes Son-In-Law, Daughter-In-Law, Brothers, Sisters, Grandchildren) of the member may use the amenity at the Property Owner Rate when accompanied by the Member
  • In addition, members can enjoy a 20% discount on clothing purchases
  • Wellness Members that hold a Tennis Membership receive a Complimentary Swim Membership to both outdoors pools

Swim

  • Free access to beach-front lake with certified Lifeguards onduty
  • Free use of paddle boats, kayaks, paddle boards, canoes and rockslide
  • Access to snack bar and shaded picnic tables
  • Wade-in access to children's pool section
  • Single Membership includes Two (2) Free One Day Guest Pass (to be used for non-residents only)
  • Couple Membership includes Four (4) Free One Day Guest Pass (to be used for non-residents only)
  • Family (1-4) Membership includes Four (4) Free One Day Guest Pass (to be used for non-residents only)
  • Family Plus (5-8) Membership includes Four (4) Free One Day Guest Pass (to be used for non-residents only)
  • Direct Family (Parents, Children, includes Son-In-Law, Daughter-In-Law, Brothers, Sisters, Grandchildren) of the member may use the amenity at the Property Owner Rate when accompanied by the Member
  • Grandchildren and children under 18 gain complimentary access when accompanied by the Swim Member

NOTE: Member's Guest Passes are tracked by Swim facility and will be honored at the appropriate facility where the member has membership.

Fishing

  • Easy access to two (2) lakes (Lake Petit and Lake Sconti) containing Catfish, Bass, Brim, Crappie
  • Lake Petit is stocked with rainbow trout from September - June
  • 20% member discount on soft goods

*The use of the term “member” or “membership” is used for descriptive purposes only and does not mean a membership separate from or in addition to membership in the Big Canoe® Property Owners Association, Inc. and does not change the easement of enjoyment in or to the Common Properties afforded to an Owner by the terms of the Declaration.



FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to some of the most frequently asked membership questions.

Q. Are there initiation/reinstatement fees?
A. No, there are no additional fees besides the monthly (or annual) dues. The membership reinstatement fee is waived for property owners and lessees that have been out of the program for two or more years and are in good standing with the POA. If the property owner or lessee has been out of the Amenity less than two years, catch up dues shall be paid to become current or the property owner or lessee shall pay the reinstatement fee, whichever option is less.

Q. Can I pay the membership and/or reinstatement fee with a credit card?
A. No.

Q. We go away every winter; do we have to pay dues while we are gone?
A. Yes, once you are a member, dues are payable monthly.

Q. Am I allowed to transfer my membership to someone else - such as a new owner of my home?
A. No. Memberships are non-transferable.

Q. How often can I change my membership status (Single, Couple, Family)?
A. A member may upgrade at any time. Once a membership is upgraded, you cannot cancel or downgrade for twelve months. A downgrade of a membership may only occur after the twelve month anniversary, and only twice within the life of the membership. Any conversion must be done in writing, before the 15th of the month, to be effective for that month.

Q. I have more than one lot in Big Canoe®; can I transfer my membership rights to anyone else?
A. Membership privileges are for property owners and long term lessees; no longer requires transfer of rights. 

Q. I have long term renters in my Big Canoe® home. Do we both have the right to become amenity members?
A. Yes. Both may become amenity members. The POA must have the lease agreement on file. Long Term renters must pay in full for amenity joined as renters are not allowed to make charges to Property Owner account.

Q. Can my grandchildren be on my membership?
A. No. Only dependents under the age of 25 residing in the same household or attending college.

Q. Can we pay the membership fees all at once, instead of monthly?
A. Yes.

Q. If I sign up on or after the 15 of the month, how am I billed?
A. Memberships are issued at the beginning of the month and cancellations are made at the end of the month. If a Property Owner signs up on or after the 15th of the month, the staff will ask if they would like to start the current month or the upcoming month.

Q. If I sell my home, am I responsible for paying the membership dues for the remainder of the calendar year?
A. No. You are no longer subject to the annual obligation.
